      Iodine can be a good thing if you are iodine deficient, but if you don't need it, it can cause havoc with your thyroid gland. I take iodine in the form of iodorol and I am hypothyroid. However, I got my thyroid levels under control with Armour before stating the iodine. Once this was achieved I did a patch test to see if I was iodine deficient, which I was. I'm only taking 1/2 a tablet a day which is 6.25 mg.

      THe RDA for iodine is only the amount to prevent goiter, usually the thyroid gland needs more. In the 1980's and before, iodine was added to our bread, so the population got a lot more iodine intake than they do today. This could account for why there are so many cases of hypothyroidism.

      Your levels could return to normal after stopping the kelp. It's know that iodine will increase TSH levels the first 6 months after taking it, then levels will go down. Keep in mind that the TSH shoud be under 2.0 (a morning reading)

My question is could it be the synthroid and the dosage being to high making him unable to gain weight. I mean he has hypothyroidism and that should make him overweight. He weighed 7 pounds at birth and has tripled his weight at 12 months but now at 15 months his weight is very low. Any one have any advice on the synthroid......???

      So stay away from iodized salt and and start getting your iodine from food sources. These include kelp, yogurt (low fat), cow's milk, boiled eggs, strawberries and Mozzarella cheese.
      3. Zinc
      Zinc is another mineral that you could easily overdose on. Too much zinc could actually block the absorption of other minerals.
      However, that doesn't mean that you don't need zinc for healthy hair. Zinc is very important when it comes to tissue growth and hair growth in particular.
      It helps to secrete the scalp with much needed oil and avoid dandruff that could possibly cause hair loss. It also helps with the absorption of other nutrients that you need.

    What type of multi-vitamin should I take for hypothyroidism?
    2 years ago I was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. I underwent Radioactive Iodine treatment which unfortunately nearly killed off all of my thyroid. I now take Levothyroxine but unfortunately like most with my condition the tablets do not solve the horrific tiredness I can get. I have been doing research into ways I can boost my energy levels. The most obvious is exercise and a decent diet of which I am working on, but I did read somewhere that taking a really strong multivitamin as well as Cod liver oil may help. According to the research your everyday conveyor belt multivitamins are no where near strong enough for a person with hypothyroidism, and wont really help the tiredness issue so I want to know if there are any really good multivitamin brands out there that I can use, that arent things like Centrum/Seven Seas etc?

      The most common treatment for low thyroid hormone levels consists of thyroid hormone drug replacement therapy.       Maximizing vit D levels will help all health conditions.

      I suggest -

      1. optimizing vit.D levels with a minimum of 10,000iu per day
      2. researching iodine supplementation - adding seaweed, especially kelp to the diet
      3. If you are using artificial sweeteners or drinks/foods with chemicals - stop immediately
      4. consider getting a fluoride filter for your water - I recommend Berkey but Zerowater will do also

    What does this mean EXACTLY?
    I have these Kelp pills and I've read the interactions and one of them says: Lithium - Concomitant use of pharmacological doses of potassium iodide and lithium may result in hypothyroidism.

    Is this bad? I've been taking the pills, three a day to be exact. Will this cause me hypothyroidism?

      It means using does of both potassium and lithium together can cause hypothyroidism, and you should keep within the recommended dosage on the bottle - don't exceed it. More is not better.

    progesterone cream for fibroids?
    I have been reading about fibroids been caused by oestrogen dominance and progesterone cream working for them, so I ordered a jar, I thought I would find someone on here who had tried it, but after searching under fibroids, several have recommended surgery.

    I have been advised against surgery as I am a high stroke risk due to other disabilities and congenital hypothyroidism.

    I have seen fibroidclear and another one I cant think of name but involves taking serracor, which I can't find a supplier in UK. I think Fibroidclear is from US also.

    I'm taking kelp as iodine is meant to help and also help thyroid and B6 is meant to help liver break down excess oestrogen as well.

    Has anyone ever tried herbal ways to shrink fibroids or the progesterone cream and did it work?

      The only way to get rid of fibroids is surgery. If the cream worked it would be prescribed to women with fibroids as it would be much easier and cheaper than surgery. I would also NOT recommend taking unregulated doses of hormones, you can cause other health problems like this.
      Why not talk to your GP or gynaecologist about what you CAN do instead of reading stuff on the net. Most of the stuff posted there is rubbish and/or dangerous.
